The Nova Scotia Society of Dispensing Opticians was formed in 1979.

The objects of the Society are:

a) To promote and advance the profession of Optical Dispensing in the province of Nova Scotia.
b) To maintain and improve the high standards of learning and competence in Optical Dispensing amongst the membership of the Society.
